Your Bishop Allen Sports Update
Bishop Allen is well-known for its success in academics, but it is not overlooked in its athletic excellence either. As the temperature begins to drop and the leaves change colour, Bishop Allen fall athletes are raking in the medals, championships, and stories of perseverance and struggle.
Cross Country – The female runners have seen exceptional success this year, with a double gold (midget and senior girls) at the Peter Morris meet, a bronze (midget girls) and gold (senior girls) at a pre-OFSAA meet, two silvers (junior and senior girls) and gold (midget girls) at TCDAA championships, and two more bronze medals (open and midget girls) at the Boardwalk Relays. At OFSAA we saw a remarkable 9th place finish by midget girls, as well as some other fantastic results. Clearly all those practices paid off! Great work!
Baseball – The junior boys attained exceptional success with a 23-7 win over Michael Power to take the title of tournament champions on October 6. Maybe your success will rub off on the Blue Jays next year!
Field Hockey – Our girls field hockey team is no rookie when it comes to success, and the girls saw a phenomenal season this year with 6 straight wins and the highest number of points in the city. They pushed hard until the very end, only falling short by one goal in their final game. Don’t worry, girls, your legacy lives on!
Flag Football – Another success story comes from our girls flag football team, who made it all the way to the finals and finished with a spectacular silver medal at the TCDAA championships. Not only did these girls develop some great skills and new friends, but they brought home another title for BA. Way to go!
Basketball – The junior girls have kicked off their seasons with some intense games and hardworking practices, and currently stand in third place in their division. The senior girls finished the season in fourth place in the TDCAA, but faced a tough matchup against St. Joe’s in the playoffs and fell short in the semifinal game. It’s safe to say that the girls left their hearts and souls on the court, and have not failed to make Bishop Allen proud.
Volleyball – The senior boys volleyball team played some strong games this year and finished in fourth place in their division. They had a good start to the playoffs, but unfortunately were beaten in the quarterfinals by Neil McNeil. Thanks for an exciting season!
Hockey – The senior boys started off their seasons with a 3-3 comeback against Power and a 4-2 loss against CHAT, and are ready for what is to come with a strong team and powerful players. Varsity girls are also warming up for an exciting and hopeful season. Good luck to both teams!
Tennis – Tennis is increasing in popularity all over Canada, but Bishop Allen students are clearly ahead of the game. Their hard work has brought our school two gold medals (Jr. girls singles and Jr. boys doubles) and a bronze (Sr. mixed doubles) from the TDCAA championships. We “love” these results!
Golf – Nine BA students competed at TDCAA on September 29, coming home with two overall scores in 12th and 4th place. Or, should I say, foreth place. Great job, golfers!
Football – While the junior team has shown true perseverance despite losing to Power in semis, the senior team has given Bishop Allen its first football win in history. These teams have a long way to go, but there is no doubt that they will give their all and continue to build a strong foundation for Cardinal football in the years ahead. Stay strong, boys.
Cheerleading – No one at FNL could have overlooked the strong performance by BA’s cheerleading team, who stayed loud and proud through the harsh winds and even harsher game, and whose early-morning practices give us all the motivation to wake up and face the school day.
All this success would not be possible without the commitment and support of many teachers and coaches, and a huge thank you goes out to all who have built and strengthened BA’s athletes. There is so much more to come!
