Stranger Things: A Spooky Shot of 80s Nostalgia Straight to your Heart
Netflix’s new sci-fi horror series Stranger Things is said to be its best original so far, beating even its closest competitors handily with its terrific sense of mystery, glorious casting, and a brilliant yet unexpected contrast of thrilling horror and humour. If you’re one of the few that hasn’t watched Stranger Things yet, you’re seriously missing out on something incredible.
Now, this show isn’t like anything entertainment has seen before; Stranger Things is a dynamic piece set in 1983, based on four adorably nerdy 12-year-old boys who have to ditch their usual Dungeons and Dragons game nights when one of them suddenly goes missing. The lost boy’s mother, excellently portrayed by Winona Ryder, understandably loses her marbles in her ramshackle home and is regarded concerningly by her neighbours, who don’t understand the supernatural sightings she’s claimed to have seen. Along with all the commotion surrounding Will’s disappearance, there are subplots of romance, friendship, trauma, and heartbreak. Stranger Things feels at once fresh and familiar, like a spookier version of something you watched as a kid. Not to mention, the show only has eight episodes so far, making it easily the subject of your binge-watching this weekend.
So basically, everyone and their grandma is watching this show now. Why miss out? Stranger Things gets you hooked for good. Your only question now should be what to do with your life once you’re finished.
