News and Nerdworthy: Your Guide to Everything Going on in the Nerd World
Hey Guys! I’m back with a guide to the wondrous, and sometimes scary world of the weird. Us fangirls and fanboys enjoy the likes of music (NOT One Direction! Boohoo, Zayn left, no one cares) film (not just The Notebook… seriously, give us some credit) TV, and books. We take pride in being able to answer the most difficult trivia questions about ‘that one side character that no one cared about in the movies but was way more important in the books’ (ahem,, GINNY WEASLY). And if need be, we can beat you in a strategy game with the skills we’ve learned from watching countless episodes of Game of Thrones.
On that note, let me tell you about the nerdtastic things going on in our world.
CHIMICHANGAS A’PLENTY
If you haven’t guessed it already, it’s the national treasure - Deadpool.
On February 12th, Deadpool hit theaters with the biggest bang you’ve ever seen. In it’s opening weekend alone, it was the second highest grossing R rated movie ever (behind American Sniper), with a whopping 13.2 million income in only its first three days! This movie will surely make you laugh if you have a twisted sense of humour (who’re we kidding… If you don’t, you’re lying to yourself). This isn’t the type of movie you go see with your parents. Deadpool doesn’t fail to break the fourth wall (or is it the sixteenth wall??) just as the comics did. Almost anyone would enjoy this movie… just make sure when you get to the theater that you have a feasible plan to get in without the help of your katanas.
The truth is still out there.
X-FILES REBOOT.
This January, X- files came back to TV after 14 years off air. Naturally the world went into a tailspin with anticipation to see detectives Fox Mulder and Dana Scully back in action. The season is soon to be over, as it is only 6 episodes long. It is being referred to as season 10 of the X-Files although it is unsure as to whether the show will continue on after the sixth episode. Both David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson have voiced their interest in continuing the series further… if the opportunity presents itself. Fingers crossed!
WAR AND PEACE
This show is addictive. I mean, if you’re interested in historical fiction. Another mini series (booooooooo) but just as good. It’s based of of Leo Tolstoy’s legendary novel of the same name. It follows three characters living in the time of Napoleon's conquest to take over Russia. This show is just oh so so good! It features Lily James, Paul Dano and newcomer James Norton. (Who isn’t too bad to look at, if I say so myself). The costumes are on point, the acting is up to par and the storyline is brilliant. Six, 1.5 hour episodes filled with drama and romance. So get those buts in those seats, cause you’re in for an amazing ride!
THE DEATH OF A BACHELOR
That’s right Pan!c fans—Brendon Urie is back with a killer album, and a new music video with… shall we say, demonic proportions for the new song Emperors New Clothes. Clearly, this isn’t new news for many Pan!c fans, as the internet practically exploded when the new video premiered. If you haven’t heard the song, then you probably live in a dark hole somewhere where the sun don’t shine. The real question isn’t how you got a hold of this article from that hole (although it is alarming), but how you’re going to get out and go listen to The Death of a Bachelor ASAP!
CLEOPATRA
The Lumineers are back with a new album (coming soon *tear*) entitled Cleopatra. Their new single Ophelia is really catchy and something you definitely have to listen to! But, I will admit that not many people like the Lumineers because their first hit, Ho Hey! was so overplayed. I won’t disagree, but while we wait for Cleopatra, listen to their first album (self-entitled Lumineers) excluding Ho Hey! Look it up! I urge you to give it a chance!
NEW HARRY POTTER CONTENT
That’s right folks, we have Harry Potter and the Cursed Child coming soon.
Sadly, we don’t have the Marauders stories we’ve been hoping for, but instead, we have something almost just as good! We now get to know what happens after all was well. From the looks of it, all might not be well with the Potters. Both Harry and his son Albus are still dealing with the repercussions of Harry's destiny… nineteen years later. It is the screenplay published as a book, so all of us who can’t make it all the way to England to see it on the stage, can read it at home comfortable in our snuggies with our doors locked to keep the rest of humanity outside. Book available for pre-order!
GREAT SCOT! We have a new internet meme!
No, not Damn Daniel (although word is, you can buy his white vans online for almost $300,000). C’mon guys, it’s gotten sooo annoying.
Instead, Mark Hamill (@hamillhimself) has posted a fan made meme on social media mixing Luke and Obi Wan as Marty and Doc Brown. Check it out!
So that’s it! Here’s everything going on in the world of the weird. Remember to check out last months’ edition of New and Nerdworthy exclusively on the Freshly Pressed website.
PEACE!!!
