New and Nerdworthy: The Guide to All New Things Going on in the Nerdworld

The life of fangirls and fanboys is not a simple one. We own a collection of books taller than ourselves and we cry over fictional characters when we should probably be sleeping. Our Netflix instant queue is filled with TV shows that include the paranormal and come from the BBC. Every year we try our very best to make it to Fan Expo and you know, without a doubt, that one cannot simply walk in Mordor. If any of these apply to you, you might be one of us.

So, welcome to Nerdworld. Now that we’ve got that settled, here are a couple of geeky things going on in our world right now.

1. Here’s the newest movie you won’t want to miss.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens (…obviously…)

"Do or do not, there is no trying to avoid the Star Wars franchise right now.” Let’s face it, everywhere you turn Star Wars is there. Every company on the radio and the TV has made a commercial dubbing the franchise. Ever since the prehistoric age when the first movies came out, people have been worshipping the brilliance of a galaxy far, far away. Where brothers accidentally kiss their sisters and their dad has a serious case of asthma. Now they have the chance to pass down the family’s lightsabre to the next generation of Jedi warriors when the critically acclaimed seventh instalment hit theatres right before Christmas. But, quick question…where is Luke?!

2. And don’t forget about TV…

Shadowhunters.

In addition to that, the new year will be starting off with a bang for fans of The Mortal Instruments book series by Cassandra Clare! You can toss that sad excuse for a movie into the trash can now, because ABC Family (now Freeform) is launching a new TV series called Shadowhunters, directed by McG, the director of Supernatural. Clary Fray, played by Katherine McNamara, is discovering a world within her own, where demons are real, and Shadowhunters are destined to protect the mundane world. It premiered on January 12 at 9PM, stay tuned for more!

3.For all the musical fanatics.

Blurryface

For fans of the emo music scene, you can stop crying about the breakup of Blink- 182 and My Chemical Romance—come on guys, it’s been four years!—because Twenty Øne Pilots has brought us a blessing, and it’s called Blurryface. Now I know, Blurryface came out a little while ago but not everyone knows about it. Almost everybody has heard Tear in My Heart and has swooned because Tyler Joseph just has a knack for tearing our hearts in two. But the album itself is worth a listen- that may or may not make your heavy-dirty-soul cry.

4. Books, books… and more books

An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir

Unless you frequent Chapters and Goodreads on a daily basis, you might not have heard of this book. But you might want to think about picking it up before 2017 because An Ember in The Ashes is in the works to play on the big screen. The story follows Leia and Elias, two people from two completely different lives who are trying to escape the wrath of the Empire (Not Star Wars, guys). When their paths intertwine, they ban together to escape… but the two will never be the same. So if you haven’t already read the book, do so before you see the movie!

So there you have it friends! The four things that you should be fangirling/boying about if you haven't already. Remember tissues are always a good thing to keep handy when embracing the awesomeness of all things nerdy, and that connecting with your friends is a really good way to embrace your inner nerd!
