Hungry, Powerful, Willing
To a spectator, it would have looked like a season just like any other. The crisp new air of early fall had just arrived, and the players were ready for some good old fashioned baseball. Each year, after settling in to their new classes and routines, they could always count on making the short walk down to Queensway Park for a new junior season. But it’s never exactly the same each year. The new faces appear and learn the Bishop Allen way, the youngest faces in years past become the oldest, and the talent changes with every season. One thing however, remains the same: the confidence.
After two straight OFSAA medals, spirits have never been higher. The promise exhibited during the short junior season will carry over into the spring, and Coach Rebelo will certainly lead the team to yet another fantastic finish. The players know they’re good, and their opponents are afraid; safe to say their mark has been made. The legacy, however, has yet to be cemented by a gold medal.
A first-place finish is not everything, but it is certainly not a nuisance. Would Derek Jeter have been idolized the same way without a World Series title? Would Kobe Bryant be as much of a legend without his five rings? The answer, most likely, is no. Sure, the talent is incredible, but it’s nice to have something to show for it. This coming spring, the players know that this is their best shot at a gold medal for years to come, and they plan to win. It’s less than necessary, but more than possible.
It will be a long winter full of preparation for the coming season. The players will practice throughout the long, cold months with their respective clubs, and will come out ready. Ready to take on whatever challenges the new season will bring, ready to play their hearts out for their school, and ready to win. The time is now, and after a promising junior season that saw our boys go 5-2-2 against Michael Power and many other schools, they’re hungry for gold. And they won’t stop working until it’s theirs.
