Cross-Country Runners Show Dedication and Race in Heavy Rain
On Friday, October 16, Bishop Allen’s team of 18 cross-country runners joined teams from across Ontario to compete in Collingwood at the Sinclair Highlands Invitational. There were over 2,000 runners representing more than 100 schools at the meet.
For approximately 2½ hours, runners persevered through heavy rain and hail. Thankfully, one well-equipped BA student brought a tent to the meet.
Led by Coach Mr. Frlan, the Cardinals placed very well. Our top senior girl finished in 12th place out of 400 runners. One midget girl placed in the top 30 out of hundreds of runners, and a senior boy placed 127th out of 500 runners. The junior girls’ team placed 8th out of 30 teams and the junior boys finished 14th overall. There were many strong finishes on this race day.
The next meet is on Friday, October 23 at Ashbridges Bay. It is a 12-kilometer four-person relay, with each team member running 3 kilometers.
The TCDSB finals will be held October 30, followed by the Ontario-wide finals on November 7. The Sinclair Highlands Invitational was a pre-OFSAA event and was held on same course that will be used for the provincial championships on November 7.
